5 Great Books to Read While Traveling

One of the most essential things to bring on a trip is a great book. Any trip is guaranteed to have long waiting periods on an airplane, bus, or train. I find the best to bring is a shorter lightweight paperback.

This last year I’ve had the opportunity to read a couple great books that I found are perfect for travel. Each book was easy to read, and involved people traveling to discover more about themselves and the world.

An update on The Help by Kathryn Stockett: A novel about a young Ms. Skeeter and a book she writes with two black domestic servants about working in white Southern households in the early 1960s. While I enjoyed reading this book, I was very disappointed in the ending. What could have been a wonderful story about the fight for equal rights, I feel like ended with the Ms. Skeeter getting all the benefit, a job in NY with a publishing house, and and the domestic servants all the consequences, loss of their and their husbands jobs for participating in the book. While the book tries to end on a hopeful note I can’t get over the inequality and the lack of responsibility that Ms. Skeeter takes.
